Description: FOSH is a charity that works in partnership with BMBC Libraries and Museum service to maintain Smithills Hall in Bolton. Smithills is one of the best-preserved Manor Houses in NW of England set in 2000 acres of land on the edge of the West Pennine Moors. We recruit and train volunteer guides to conduct tours of around 90 minutes to the public in groups of up to ten people. Tours take place every 2-3 weeks between 10 and 4.0pm on Wednesday to Friday, and between 12 and 4.0pm on Sundays. Volunteers need to commit themselves to be available to conduct several tours during the year as timetabled. A structured training manual is in place to teach new guides how to conduct a tour and training will involve shadowing experienced guides to gain knowledge and experience. Volunteers will become members of FOSH which will entitle them to attend social events and receive quarterly Bulletins about the Hall and its history. Volunteers must be of presentable appearance, clearly spoken and observe BMBC and FOSH standards of behaviour Open to any number of volunteers.
