Description: Schoolreaders volunteers visit a local primary school once a week for an hour or two and listen to children read individually to help develop the children's reading and comprehension skills and develop a love of reading. This will positively impact on the children's ability to fully access their secondary education and enhance their future life chances. Our volunteers need to be over 18 but do not need any prior skills or experience of working with children or in schools, however, they do need to be able to commit to volunteering each week for at least a year (although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time). Volunteers will need to have a DBS check completed (this is completed by the school and at no cost to the volunteer). Volunteers will be matched with a school that they are able to easily travel to. Unfortunately, travel expenses are not able to be reimbursed.
