Dementia Adventure

The organisation’s themes: Emotional Wellbeing, Health, Keeping Active and Involved

Who the organisation is for: Older people, Carers

Organisation description: Dementia Adventure is an award-winning charity supporting people with dementia to get outdoors and experience the benefits of nature. They think differently about dementia, focusing on the individual, not the condition, and looking at what people can do rather than what they can’t. They have proven that with the right support, anything is possible. How they can help: Supported Dementia Respite Breaks: Dementia Adventure has been offering fully supported dementia breaks for well over a decade. They understand the complex and individual needs of people living with dementia, as well as how carers can benefit from having the chance to relax and enjoy time with their loved one while someone else takes care of all the planning and background tasks. Whether you’re looking for an alternative to respite in which everyone gets a rest, or an opportunity to have an adventure together, they’ll support you to have the break you deserve. Free training for family and friends: ‘Understanding Dementia Better’ and ‘Mood and Motivation’ are free, online training sessions for family and friends supporting someone with dementia at home. These informal sessions offer you a chance to meet others in a similar situation to you and will help you discover small and simple steps that can make a big difference. Training and Consultancy: As the only charity solely to focus on dementia and nature, Dementia Adventure is a sector leader in working with organisations in blue, green, health and care sectors. The team will work with you to create inclusive services, so that people with dementia can engage more with nature and have regular outdoor experiences. Research: Dementia Adventure’s work is rooted in the latest research. They also support other organisations in their research by assisting with joint funding proposals or project ideas and by sharing relevant research or resources you have written.
