Friends of Firwood

The organisation’s themes: Environmental Protection or Improvement

Who the organisation is for: Tenants and residents

Organisation description: We are a community and conservation group based around the historic area of Firwood Fold, which is a designated Conservation area and the birthplace of Samuel Crompton. We undertake a range of activities to improve the environment around Firwood Fold including litterpicking, flower and shrub planting, weed clearing, general maintenance of green areas. We have also improved the woodlands at the rear of Firwood Fold, cutting back overgrown shrubbery and relaying paths to improve access, replaced broken fences, tree planting, and have managed to almost eradicate Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed, invasive species which are very damaging to natural species and the environment. We also run community events; we held a street party for the King's Coronation and in 2022 for the Queen's Jubilee, and we hold coffee mornings
