Organisation description: We are a community interest company serve a very deprived community (Tonge with the Haulgh) in Bolton. We have high levels of anti-social behaviour, drugs and crime. We engage a diverse range of children and teenagers introducing them to boxing and keeping them off the streets. We have committed volunteers that support the club. We have a high demand of young people; We offer boxing which is a physical activity that teaches discipline and routine, it is an activity that engages hard to reach young people as it is seen as something cool to be involved in. Many families can’t afford to pay to go to clubs. Some young people are known to social services, police etc and have complex home lives. We already have a waiting list of young people. Many of these young people do not have positive male role models in their lives and through positive activities such as boxing we can offer a mentoring role to these young people. Our community gym was formed by and is run by retired Boxers and teachers and local volunteers passionate about giving back to the community and offering positive physical activities to the young people in the locality. Our overall aim is to help develop life skills, reducing crime and anti-social behaviours, improve mental health, positive health and well being, help develop employability skills, help bring together communities and help build stronger communities.
