Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit – Community-Led Approaches Programme

Bolton CVS is administering the community-led approaches programme with the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), and 10GM.

The community-led approach to violence reduction, means the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) works closely with communities to understand the strengths, challenges, and needs of the community and determine how local investments will be made.

Several boroughs across the city-region have received funding from the VRU as part of its investment in community-led programmes, outlined in Greater Manchester’s Serious Violence Action Plan.

When communities are affected by violence often the key to sustainable solutions can often be found by speaking to local residents about the underlying causes of crime, working with rather than deciding for them.

Working in a place-based way these initiatives are about learning what are the priorities in each community and co-designing services with local people that will benefit their community.

The key focus of the programme is ensuring that young people and stakeholders come together, focussing on a strength-based approach, to identify what’s going on, what’s not happening and to develop ideas from within the community to inform projects and activities.

See below for details about the current funding opportunities in Greater Manchester.
