According to the most recent State of the Sector survey, there were 234 social enterprises operating in Bolton in 2021. These enterprises work across many sectors and deliver valuable services and opportunities. They are a vibrant community of businesses, using their profit for purpose and making a hugely positive impact on our communities through both the services they offer and the employment opportunities they create.
Here at Bolton CVS we are privileged to work alongside some of these enterprises and their leaders, supporting them to do the amazing work they do as well as they possibly can.
This is a snapshot of a few of the social enterprises that are working to create a vibrant and resilient economy in Bolton. From these examples you can see that social enterprise exists in many different forms, and across many different sectors.

What – Electronic Waste Management and Education and Skills provider.
Where – The Market Place, Bolton Town Centre
How – Collecting electronic waste from households, businesses, and large organisations, refurbishing or recycling it and offering the technology back to community members and organisations at affordable prices.

What – High quality arts workshops led by, and for, people with lived experience of mental health difficulties and substance mis-use.
Where – Commerce House, Bolton
How – Increasing accessibility to art through a wide range of classes, exhibitions and cultural experiences, particularly for those with lived experience of mental health or substance mis-use issues.

What – Property maintenance and management company
Where – Waters Meeting Road, Bolton
How – Working with ethical landlords to provide property services as well as delivering social programmes to breakdown barriers, build confidence and empower people to get back on their feet.

What – Provide practical support to people with hearing loss.
Where – Bark Street, Bolton
How – Breaking down communication and social isolation issues for the deaf community through the provision of sign language interpreted resources, advocacy and social activities.
Community Benefit Society (a co-operative model)
What – Counselling and mental wellbeing services.

How – Working as a society of 6 Bolton-based charities to deliver NHS talking therapy contracts – offering services that are free at the point of use.
